  definitely toxic JW parents and grandparents.

  toxic JWs in the congregation ----- Boy I've been thinking a lot about how much time I spent with idiot pioneers back in the day. The sisters I was privileged to have worked with needed serious help. They were soooo negative and critical of everyone and everything. I came from that type of home so to be with them seemed normal. But really they were some of the most unhappy people I have ever known in my life. I eventually started getting sick at just the thought of working with them anymore.

  concerning "morality" in the congregation, did you ever think "how do we have the nerve to judge "worldley " people ?

  when i was a study , at first i was really impressed with the high morals in the congregation and how "happy "everyone seemed , i eventually fell for a pioneer and commited adultery , which i felt and was made to feel the most wicked woman in the world for .

  (i am married to him now ) but after i left i found out just how much had really been going on in the cong , there was one brother who had been having an affair for 5 years with a sister (he was married ) he only got reprooved and she was disfellowshipped !

  i found out lots of people who wed in the hall had already done the "deed" child abuse had not been reported etc domestic violence situations , all though i am not in a position to judge "wrong doing " myself im amazed that so many in the cong had the nerve to look down on church goers "immorality " or "worldly people considering what they knew had gone on in the kingdom hall !.

  How many meetings did you actually enjoy?

  i was talking to my husband and we were trying to work out how many meetings we actually came away from feeling enthused or excited by what we had heard.

  not including pre and post meeting association how many wow moments can you recall?.

  we had to conclude that most of the time in the organisation the meeting was something you endured.

  In my home congregation there were lots of families. Usually some type of drama going on behind the scenes. For the most part the meetings were fun for us. There was always someone tripping off the stage or forgetting their part on a talk or demo. We had a pretty liberal congo so there was always some drama going on that everyone knew about. We usually had one good laugh per meeting.

  But the obvious theme here is that none of the enjoyment came from the material itself........just the people.

  does everyone remember a few years back, when the km directed that nobody should wear shorts after the convention while out and about?

  i don't have the reference, but i remember a brother in our hall made a comment that night at the meeting while it was being discussed.

  he was a very poor brother, with 3 children.

  "Did God set them up to fail? I don't know, he did give them the knowledge to succeed as well and that should not be ignored."

  Actually he didn't give them the knowledge to succeed. The sentence for getting this knowledge (which they got when they ate from the tree) was death. So by the time they got the "knowledge" by eating from that tree, it was too late. (Gen 2:17)

  I have to echo Mary's comment too. I used to think the same thing when I would study with people. One of those questions in the Live Forever book was "if you had the power to end all of the suffering in the world, wouldn't you do it?" Well DUH! obviously that's a yes. So why hasn't Jehovah ended the suffering in the world?........... because his ways are higher than ours

  i vaguely remember looking at this board a few years ago, before i ever considered leaving the borg, and being appalled at the evil and hateful attitudes i saw here and scared to death of reading any further.. now i go back through years and years of posts and there is no evil or hate there at all.

  it's one of the most kind and welcoming boards i've encountered since the invention of the internet.. that is how well borg indoctrination works.

  it is eerily like 1984. black is white.

  How tolerant of diversity are you and I really?

  i ask myself that question from time to time and i find a disturbing trend towards intolerance whenever i'm feeling poor in some area.. .

  when i think of the "poor in spirit", i don't think happy, i think instead of envy and intolerance.

  sure those who become happy overcome their "poor-in-spirit-ness by focusing on self improvement in those areas of felt deficit, however i imagine the unhealthy may become more intolerant, envious and controlling.. .

  I think you mean when you're feeling bad about yourself you look down on others? As a way to feel better about yourself? If that's what you mean that actually is very common. People will put others down as a way to bolster themselves. I can understand that.
